Teaching point
In suspected meningitis (fever, neck stiffness, drowsiness/altered GCS), take blood cultures and give empirical ceftriaxone immediately; do NOT delay treatment for imaging. CT before LP is indicated when there are red flags (reduced GCS, focal signs, seizures, immunocompromise) - so if the patient is drowsy, do not perform LP first.
